Hi, Maddie. I have a question. You know I want to be published someday, but I’m afraid to show my stories/books to anyone who might critize them, escecially my parents. I know that is not the way to get published AT ALL, but its hard for me!!!
Do you have any tips???

Well, Katie, it can be pretty scary to publish something if you are afraid that people will criticize your stories. But as an author you will have to learn that there are going to be people out there who don’t like your stories. People might tell you that they love your books but they feel that there are things in which you could’ve improved. That is called constructive feedback-something every author needs.
I think you should try to publish your stories. If you are afraid people will criticize you, feel free to email the stories to me at meredithandthemeangirls@gmail.com and I will look them over and edit them. But don’t be afraid to get constructive feedback from people because it will help you in the future. So if you want to publish them, then publish them.

hey maddie it’s jessica lisen i love coming on your website. it is sooo cool. i dont have an email but i always go on here so this can be the place where we can chat. also i just got my ears pirced!!!!! =) now i don’t have to say to my friends that i do not have my ears pirced and they all be soo shocked. but still. i dont get my email till chrismas or nexted summer! so exited about middle school but kind of scared.whatcif i get bullied like i did in fifth grade! that would be hard.don’t you think. it kind of gets not very fun. if you get this messege write back

Yay! I can’t wait to see you with your ears pierced! Btw, there is nothing to worry about in middle school (so I’ve heard.) I’ve talked to plenty of people who’ve started off nervous but ended the year feeling confident. Let me know ur email address when u get it!!

i will! maddie i know a lot about dodgen because i have two sisters and one brother and they r older than me. they all have been though middle school and if you have any questions then just asked. my older sis kathryn is about to be in college, my brother glenn is in high school like my other sis meredith.write back!

I don’t know if there are any updates yet, but you might be happy to know that the sequel is going great and we have gotten pretty far into it. I think you’ll like this one a whole lot.

Hey! I haven’t checked your website in FOREVER! Actually, I just found my copy of Meredith and the Mean Girls and my sister’s room and it reminded me to check the site!!! I was wondering how the sequel was going, when it will be out (or if it is out now), ect. Thanks!!!

Oh, well, the sequel is actually not going very far. I’ve been stuck in the middle for awhile, but I’m hoping a new idea will pop into mind soon. It will hopefully be released sometime in 2011 or 2012. Thanks for checking!

I, like you, was someone who was picked on relentlessly in school (I’m homeschooled now, thankfully) mainly because I wasn’t, and am still not, someone who likes to shop for clothes in expensive stores, but would rather shop for books at my local Borders, I’m into things that aren’t popular (not exactly) I like thigns such as Anime and Manga and I was teased for that, and for my appearence too, I’ve lost alot of weight since my school days, I’m fourteen, I’ve written three and a half books, and like you, I’ve taken my bad experiences and used them to my advantege by polishing my skills as a writer, the more people said I couldnt’ do it, or that I was weird, the harder I pushed, I’m on the verge of getting published but I’m trapped, I have my books ready, I’m even doing a reading at Borders this year, but I can’t seem to find a publisher, every turn I take is a scam or too expensive, how did you do it? How did you get published especially at your age? Please help me out, I can’t write about my personal experiences like you can; I’m not emotionally strong enough to dredge up that pain and re-live it for the sake of a story, instead I’m a fiction writer; I write romance/fantasy and I just want to tell someone else’s story, I want someone to look up to one of my charectors the way I’ve looked up to the charectors of some of my own favirote books, any help on getting published would be great, thank you -Alexa AKA Asagi

Well, Alexa, thanks so much for commenting here. It sounds like you have had a very horrible time dealing with mean girls. I am very sorry.
If you want to publish your books (which you should), you should first of all try to send it to an editor or literary agent to see if they’d like to publish it. I got some great feedback from Andrew Clements. If they say no, you should search self-publishing accounts. We used CreateSpace, which works for Amazon, but that didn’t work out too well.
There are great places that I know of such as LuLu and iUniverse, if you’d like that.
Also, my mom and I believe it’s a great idea for you to start a blog about your mean girl experiences as well. Just go to wordpress.com and click start blogging here (or something like that). I believe you will have a fun time and lots of people will read it.

Actually, I think you’re best off using CreateSpace. It did have a few flaws, but that’s probably your best bet.
